  • Better Body Balance

    BETTER BODY BALANCE


    Better Body Balance for Seniors is a specialized fitness class designed to enhance the physical and mental well-being of older adults by focusing on improving their balance, stability, and overall body strength. This class is tailored to meet the unique needs and abilities of seniors, helping them maintain an active and independent lifestyle. 


    Each session starts with a gentle warm-up, including light stretching and breathing exercises to prepare the body and mind. Some balance drills and specific exercises will be offered to challenge and improve balance. Light weights, or bodyweight exercises will be used to build strength in the legs, core, and upper body. Stretching routines are incorporated to maintain or improve flexibility, aiding in mobility and preventing muscle stiffness. 


    The class focuses on movements that mimic everyday activities, such as bending, reaching, and squatting, to enhance functional fitness. Each session concludes with a cool-down segment to gradually lower heart rate and prevent muscle soreness.

Jessie will guide you through some gentle, chair based movement focused on connecting the breath and the body.  This will be followed by a short guided relaxation and Jessie will finish the class by guiding you through a themed meditation.  This practice can help ease anxiety and stress.  Increase focus, positive feelings and improve overall mood.     Meditative Self-Healing
    [Wednesday Oct 2, 1:00-3:00]
    You will be guided on a Meditative Journey that will result in deep relaxation. This process helps you to go "within" and begin to heal, whether it be a mental, emotional, or physical issue you need to "let go" of. You will also receive a mini energy clearing. Your energy can be blocked by many things. Once addressed, your mind and body are free to work on self-healing. An experience that is both deeply relaxing AND invigorating! 1.5 Hours. Limited to 20-25 people. Instructor- Janet Deese


    Greeting Card Master Class

    Experimental Printmaking

    Christmas Tree Ornaments Around the World

    Introduction: Around the World Christmas ornaments are a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday while acknowledging diversity and inclusion. Instructor will provide 3 choices of ornaments.
    Practice-Students will choose 2 ornaments to confect. Students can take one ornament. The second Ornament will be on display at the Tosh Collins Christmas Party.

    Stop the Bleed
    [Wednesday Dec 11, 1:00-2:00 & 2:30-3:30]

    In life, you are more likely to use “Stop the Bleed” skills than CPR skills. Stop the Bleed is a grassroots national awareness campaign that trains and encourages bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.     Our popular series of Computer Classes for Older Adults with Brendan Chella from the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library returns for a Fall Semester starting Thursday September 5th from 1 pm—4 pm and will continue through Thursday November 21st.


    For this semester, we are switching it up a little bit. We will be alternating between our usual classes with technical assistance and One-on-one appointments with Brendan for one hour “tutoring”.

    Everyone knows how to dial the number, but not everyone knows WHEN! Let us teach you all about the Who, What, Where, When, Why, and Hows of calling 911 for help. We answer questions such as: When should you call 911? What information do you need to know? How can you find out the address if you don’t know where you are? Can you text 911? Can you video chat 911? What sort of instructions can dispatchers give you to help until responders arrive? After the presentation we even have a 911 simulator that we can practice calling 911!     Just in time for Halloween, we’re showing some horror classics! They're creepy and they're kooky. Mysterious and spooky. They're all together ooky!

    October 7th– Bram Stroker’s Dracula (1992)  Count Dracula, a 15th-century prince, is condemned to live off the blood of the living for eternity. Young lawyer Jonathan Harker is sent to Dracula's castle to finalise a land deal, but when the Count sees a photo of Harker's fiancée, Mina, the spitting image of his dead wife, he imprisons him and sets off for London to track her down.

    October 21st– Comedy Classic Hour– The Addams Family (1964) Starts at 1:30pm after Trivia- Morticia and Gomez Addams head a perplexingly macabre family whose members include a giant named Lurch, who acts as doorman, a disembodied hand named Thing, not-quite-right son Pugsley and morose daughter Wednesday.

    October 28th– Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein (1994) As Viktor Frankenstein (Kenneth Branagh) is dying he shares a tale of gruesome terror with a sea captain. Viktor, using previous experiments by a brilliant scientist, was able to bring a creature (Robert De Niro) assembled from body parts back to life. Once he realized how destructive his experiments had become, he abandoned the creature and tried to live a normal life with his fiance (Helena Bonham Carter). The lonely creature seeks out Viktor and demands one of two things: a bride or revenge.

    BETTER BODY BALANCE


    Better Body Balance for Seniors is a specialized fitness class designed to enhance the physical and mental well-being of older adults by focusing on improving their balance, stability, and overall body strength. This class is tailored to meet the unique needs and abilities of seniors, helping them maintain an active and independent lifestyle. 


    Each session starts with a gentle warm-up, including light stretching and breathing exercises to prepare the body and mind. Some balance drills and specific exercises will be offered to challenge and improve balance. Light weights, or bodyweight exercises will be used to build strength in the legs, core, and upper body. Stretching routines are incorporated to maintain or improve flexibility, aiding in mobility and preventing muscle stiffness. 


    The class focuses on movements that mimic everyday activities, such as bending, reaching, and squatting, to enhance functional fitness. Each session concludes with a cool-down segment to gradually lower heart rate and prevent muscle soreness.

    October 7th– Bram Stroker’s Dracula (1992)  Count Dracula, a 15th-century prince, is condemned to live off the blood of the living for eternity. Young lawyer Jonathan Harker is sent to Dracula's castle to finalise a land deal, but when the Count sees a photo of Harker's fiancée, Mina, the spitting image of his dead wife, he imprisons him and sets off for London to track her down.

    October 28th– Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein (1994) As Viktor Frankenstein (Kenneth Branagh) is dying he shares a tale of gruesome terror with a sea captain. Viktor, using previous experiments by a brilliant scientist, was able to bring a creature (Robert De Niro) assembled from body parts back to life. Once he realized how destructive his experiments had become, he abandoned the creature and tried to live a normal life with his fiance (Helena Bonham Carter). The lonely creature seeks out Viktor and demands one of two things: a bride or revenge.

    BETTER BODY BALANCE


    Better Body Balance for Seniors is a specialized fitness class designed to enhance the physical and mental well-being of older adults by focusing on improving their balance, stability, and overall body strength. This class is tailored to meet the unique needs and abilities of seniors, helping them maintain an active and independent lifestyle. 


    Each session starts with a gentle warm-up, including light stretching and breathing exercises to prepare the body and mind. Some balance drills and specific exercises will be offered to challenge and improve balance. Light weights, or bodyweight exercises will be used to build strength in the legs, core, and upper body. Stretching routines are incorporated to maintain or improve flexibility, aiding in mobility and preventing muscle stiffness. 


    The class focuses on movements that mimic everyday activities, such as bending, reaching, and squatting, to enhance functional fitness. Each session concludes with a cool-down segment to gradually lower heart rate and prevent muscle soreness.

    Meditative Self-Healing

    You will be guided on a Meditative Journey that will result in deep relaxation. This process helps you to go "within" and begin to heal, whether it be a mental, emotional, or physical issue you need to "let go" of. You will also receive a mini energy clearing. Your energy can be blocked by many things. Once addressed, your mind and body are free to work on self-healing. An experience that is both deeply relaxing AND invigorating! 1.5 Hours.     Stop the Bleed

    In life, you are more likely to use “Stop the Bleed” skills than CPR skills. Stop the Bleed is a grassroots national awareness campaign that trains and encourages bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. Can you video chat 911? What sort of instructions can dispatchers give you to help until responders arrive? After the presentation we even have a 911 simulator that we can practice calling 911!     October 7th– Bram Stroker’s Dracula (1992)  Count Dracula, a 15th-century prince, is condemned to live off the blood of the living for eternity. Young lawyer Jonathan Harker is sent to Dracula's castle to finalise a land deal, but when the Count sees a photo of Harker's fiancée, Mina, the spitting image of his dead wife, he imprisons him and sets off for London to track her down.

    October 21st– Comedy Classic Hour– The Addams Family (1964) Starts at 1:30pm after Trivia- Morticia and Gomez Addams head a perplexingly macabre family whose members include a giant named Lurch, who acts as doorman, a disembodied hand named Thing, not-quite-right son Pugsley and morose daughter Wednesday.

    October 28th– Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein (1994) As Viktor Frankenstein (Kenneth Branagh) is dying he shares a tale of gruesome terror with a sea captain. Viktor, using previous experiments by a brilliant scientist, was able to bring a creature (Robert De Niro) assembled from body parts back to life. Once he realized how destructive his experiments had become, he abandoned the creature and tried to live a normal life with his fiance (Helena Bonham Carter). The lonely creature seeks out Viktor and demands one of two things: a bride or revenge.

    For this semester, we are switching it up a little bit. We will be alternating between our usual classes with technical assistance and One-on-one appointments with Brendan for one hour “tutoring”.

    Sign up for classes and/or a One-on-One appointment with Kim at the Front Desk. There will only be 3 One-on-One appointments a day but we will have a short waiting list per day. And don’t forget to sign up for lunch before each class!
