February is Black History Month and we’re proud to present films celebrating African American stories. Every Monday at 12:30pm (unless otherwise noted)! February 5th– Pixar’s Soul (2020)– Joe is a middle-school band teacher whose life hasn't quite gone the way he expected. His true passion is jazz -- and he's good. But when he travels to another realm to help someone find their passion, he soon discovers what it means to have soul. February 12th– Disney’s The Princess & The Frog (2009) 1:30pm– Hardworking and ambitious, Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) dreams of one day opening the finest restaurant in New Orleans. Her dream takes a slight detour when she meets Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos), who has been turned into an amphibian by evil Dr. Facilier. Mistaking her for a princess and hoping to break the spell, Naveen plants a kiss on poor Tiana -- thereby turning her into a frog as well. The pair hop along on an adventure through the bayous to seek the help of a powerful voodoo priestess. February 19th NO MOVIE– CENTER CLOSED February 26th – Akeelah & The Bee (2006) Akeelah, an 11-year-old girl living in South Los Angeles, discovers she has a talent for spelling, which she hopes will take her to the National Spelling Bee. Despite her mother's objections, Akeelah doesn't give up on her goal. She finds help in the form of a mysterious teacher, and along with overwhelming support from her community, Akeelah might just have what it takes to make her dream come true.

BETTER BODY BALANCE Better Body Balance for Seniors is a specialized fitness class designed to enhance the physical and mental well-being of older adults by focusing on improving their balance, stability, and overall body strength. This class is tailored to meet the unique needs and abilities of seniors, helping them maintain an active and independent lifestyle. Each session starts with a gentle warm-up, including light stretching and breathing exercises to prepare the body and mind. Some balance drills and specific exercises will be offered to challenge and improve balance. Light weights, or bodyweight exercises will be used to build strength in the legs, core, and upper body. Stretching routines are incorporated to maintain or improve flexibility, aiding in mobility and preventing muscle stiffness. The class focuses on movements that mimic everyday activities, such as bending, reaching, and squatting, to enhance functional fitness. Silver Pride
PRIDE COMES TO TOSH COLLINS The South Buffalo Community Association is proud to partner with the Pride Center of Western New York to bring a great new monthly event to the Tosh Collins Center. The Silver Pride Project The Silver Pride Project is a Pride Center initiative that’s all about creating better conversations and improved social engagement with our older members of the LGBTQ+ community. By understanding people’s experiences we can facilitate greater social connectivity, improve social inclusion and evolve services to meet the needs of our LGBTQ+ elders. LGBTQ+ Seniors Coffee Hour Also known as the Silver Pride Coffee Hour, is an opportunity for LGBTQ+ seniors to come together and enjoy a morning of refreshments and conversation. Tosh Collins will begin hosting this monthly event on Friday June 10th from 10am-Noon and will meet the 2nd Friday of every month.

Better Body Balance for Seniors is a specialized fitness class designed to enhance the physical and mental well-being of older adults by focusing on improving their balance, stability, and overall body strength. This class is tailored to meet the unique needs and abilities of seniors, helping them maintain an active and independent lifestyle.
Each session starts with a gentle warm-up, including light stretching and breathing exercises to prepare the body and mind. Some balance drills and specific exercises will be offered to challenge and improve balance. Light weights, or bodyweight exercises will be used to build strength in the legs, core, and upper body. Stretching routines are incorporated to maintain or improve flexibility, aiding in mobility and preventing muscle stiffness.
The class focuses on movements that mimic everyday activities, such as bending, reaching, and squatting, to enhance functional fitness. Each session concludes with a cool-down segment to gradually lower heart rate and prevent muscle soreness.

LGBTQ+ Seniors Coffee Hour
Also known as the Silver Pride Coffee Hour, is an opportunity for LGBTQ+ seniors to come together and enjoy a morning of refreshments and conversation. Tosh Collins will begin hosting this monthly event on Friday June 10th from 10am-Noon and will meet the 2nd Friday of every month.

MINDFUL MOVEMENT & GUIDED MEDITATION with Jessie Reino
Looking for a quieter practice? This class is for you. Jessie will guide you through some gentle, chair based movement focused on connecting the breath and the body. This will be followed by a short guided relaxation and Jessie will finish the class by guiding you through a themed meditation. This practice can help ease anxiety and stress. Increase focus, positive feelings and improve overall mood. Class starts at 10 am. $5 per class or purchase an exercise card (10 classes for $30).

Our popular series of computer classes for older adults returns for a spring semester with Brendan Chella from the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library. Starting February 21st, class moves to Wednesdays for the semester, from 1pm to 3pm, with Brendan offering technical assistance from 3pm to 4 pm.
Register with Kim at 822-4532 x0 and come early for lunch for a donation of $3.
Laptop computers are available to sign-out for use in the Center during Center hours..

Jessie will guide you through this gentle chair yoga class that includes simple breath work, seated poses, standing poses using the chair for support and a guided relaxation at the end. Join us for Texas Hold Em’ Poker - Beginners are welcome. We will be using nickels to gamble with so don’t forget to bring in your nickels or bring in a couple dollars and we can give you change. The format is Sit & Go so participants can join and leave when needed. Max bet for a hand is 25 cents and we will be playing with one blind which will stay at 1 nickel. No need to RSVP!
Poker starts Thursday September 1st @ 12:30 pm.
