MONDAY MOVIE MATINEES

Our movie series has been going GREAT! For June, we'll be celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride Month! So grab a seat and some popcorn, and enjoy the show on our giant television after lunch on Mondays!
Movies start at 12:30 pm.

UNIVERSITY EXPRESS MAY CLASSES
2022 Topics for Summer University Express Courses at Tosh Collins Center

Monday, June 6 – 10 am – ID Theft and Credit – Let’s talk about ways to ensure your identity is protected and what exactly goes into your credit score. You’ll learn how to obtain your free annual credit score and what to do if you find incorrect information on your credit report. Instructor: Jess Poleon, Director of Consumer Protection, Erie County Office of Public Advocacy

Monday, June 13 – 10 am – Tips for Tough Conversations: Doctor Visits, Driving, Legal & Financial Concerns – If you know someone who is experiencing changes in memory, thinking and behavior, this educational program provides tips and strategies for difficult – but important – conversations about changes that may be related to dementia.  Instructor: Alzheimer’s Association, WNY Chapter

Monday, June 27 – 10 am – Protecting Yourself Online: How often do you change your password? Is your WIFI connection secure? Are your photos backed up? Learn about ways to keep your personal information safe online and what to be on the lookout for. Instructor: Nathan Bake, Information Security Officer, Erie County

YOUNG@ARTS FIELD TRIPS FOR JUNE
Our summer of adventure kicked off in grande style this May with our two super trips to the Buffalo History Museum and Tifft Nature Preserve! Registration is now open for our June, July & August trips.

  • Wednesday June 15th- Buffalo Double Decker Bus Tour! Scheduled for 12:30 pm, the bus will come pick us up at the Tosh Collins Center and give us a scenic 2 hour tour of downtown Buffalo and the waterfront. Lunch will be served at the Center at 11:30 am. A special paint & sip activity will happen from 10am-11am before the trip.
  • Wednesday June 29th- Buffalo River History Boat Tour! A 90 minute cruise along the river and waterfront. Lunch will be served at the Center at 11:00 am with an 11:30am departure for the 12:30pm cruise. A special paint & sip activity will happen from 10am-11am before the trip.

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING

We are offering FREE blood pressure screening every month at Tosh Collins. Director Michael’s mom, Marcy Weidrich RN (retired) will be in Friday June 24th from 9:30 AM AM to 11:30 AM to check your blood pressure. We will schedule her at least once a month to stop in. If you are interested in getting your BP checked, call Kim 822-4532 x0 or email kim@southbuffalo.org


SILVER PRIDE GROUP

The South Buffalo Community Association is proud to partner with the Pride Center of Western New York to bring a great new monthly event to the Tosh Collins Center.

The Silver Pride Project

The Silver Pride Project is a Pride Center initiative that’s all about creating better conversations and improved social engagement with our older members of the LGBTQ+ community. By understanding people’s experiences we can facilitate greater social connectivity, improve social inclusion and evolve services to meet the needs of our LGBTQ+ elders.

LGBTQ+ Seniors Coffee Hour

Also known as the Silver Pride Coffee Hour, is an opportunity for LGBTQ+ seniors to come together and enjoy a morning of refreshments and conversation. Tosh Collins will begin hosting this monthly event on Friday June 10th from 10am-Noon and will meet the 2nd Friday of every month.

SENIOR PROM

AN AFTERNOON TO REMEMBER!
South Buffalo Community Association cordially invites you to our first ever SENIOR PROM on Friday June 17th starting at 11 AM and going until the wee hours of the afternoon. This special event will include a whole host of special features and items to delight and entertain you.
This includes:

  • A pizza party with pizza, chicken fingers and salad
  • A special Friday 50/50 drawing
  • Musical BINGO with big prize baskets called by a special guest
  • An ice cream sundae bar
  • Dancing
  • The crowning of our Prom King & Prom Queen
  • Corsages and Boutonnieres will be provided

The cost is $10 per person and you must register with Kim at the front desk by calling 822-4532 x0 or email kim@southbuffalo.org. Deadline is Tuesday June 14th.
