SBCA Begins New Membership at Tosh Collins Senior Center

Starting January 1, 2023, the South Buffalo Community Association will begin a new annual membership at the Tosh Collins Center for Senior Programs. Throughout 2022, our programs have grown so much with
special events, day trips, and classes. On more than one occasion, we’ve sold out and started waiting lists. With this new membership program, our members will have first priority. There will also be pricing discounts on select events and trips. The fee for 2023 will be $10 for an annual membership.

Afternoon Tea Party!

You are cordially invited to our first-ever Afternoon Tea Party! Join us Thursday January 26th from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM. A wonderful selection of teas, treats, and finger foods will be served. Bring your favorite tea cup to share in the fun! The cost will be $5 for
members and $10 for non-members.

Registration opens Tuesday January 3rd at 2 pm for members and for non-members Wednesday January 11th at 2 pm.


Pickleball Comes to Tosh
The Tosh Collins Center at long last is bringing Pickleball to the gym. Open court times are currently Wednesdays from 5pm to 7 pm.  Call (716) 828-1445 to reserve your court time.


FIX IT. DON’T DITCH IT!
The Dare to Repair Cafe is a community event where individuals can bring broken items (lamps, small electronics, vacuums, toys, etc.) to the repair cafe and have volunteer “fixers” try to repair the item alongside them for free! Come by Saturday January 21st between 11am to 2 pm to get your items fixed. Register at: thetoollibrary.org/daretorepair

YOUNG@ARTS TRIPS BEGIN FOR 2023

SBCA is very excited to start a new year with new trips to the amazing arts and cultural institutions of Buffalo, Erie County and beyond. For 2023, we will have member and non-member pricing and registration times. You will also only be able to register for one trip at a time. The demand for our trips has been tremendous and we have some really fantastic trips already scheduled with more in the works. Make sure to watch out for announcements of future trips and members-only trips too! Click here for details on our February and March trips.


MONDAY MOVIE MATINEES

Our movie series has been going GREAT! For January, we're honoring the late Queen Elizabeth II with movies about the Britsh Royal Family. This will prep us for our Afternoon Tea Party on Jan 26 So grab a seat and some popcorn, and enjoy the show on our giant television after lunch on Mondays! Movies start at 12:30 pm.

  • 1/16—CLOSED

  • 1/23– Spencer (2021)

  • 1/30– The Queen (2006)

We will be taking suggestions for future movies to show. Feel free to give them to Michael when you stop in.


SPRING SEMESTER OF COMPUTER CLASSES START FEB 2ND
We’re thrilled to announce our Spring Semester of Computer Classes for Seniors, starting Thursday February 2nd. For another 12-week series of classes geared for seniors, we will be continuing to partner with Brendan Chella from the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library. There will be two class times every Thursday (1pm-3pm and 3pm-5pm). Registration for the semester will only be in-person at the Tosh Collins Center.

Registration for members will begin Thursday January 5th at 1 pm, with registration for non-members starting Thursday January 19th at 1 pm. Seating is limited and we will close registration when classes are full. Click here to see the full schedule of classes.

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING

We are offering FREE blood pressure screening every month at Tosh Collins. Director Michael’s mom, Marcy Weidrich RN (retired) will be in Friday January 27th from 9:30 AM AM to 11:30 AM to check your blood pressure. We will schedule her at least once a month to stop in. If you are interested in getting your BP checked, call Kim 822-4532 x0 or email kim@southbuffalo.org
