May 4th– Hamnet (2025)- William Shakespeare and his wife, Agnes, celebrate the birth of their son, Hamnet. However, when tragedy strikes and Hamnet dies at a young age, it inspires Shakespeare to write his timeless masterpiece "Hamlet." Lead Actress Jessie Buckley won the Oscar for her performance. Also starring Paul Mescal and directed by Chloe Zhao.

May 11th– Taxi (1978) Starts at 1:30pm after Trivia - This Emmy-winning sitcom follows the lives of a group of cabbies in New York. The employees of the Sunshine Cab Company are a motley crew, including frustrated actor Bobby, struggling boxer Tony, art gallery receptionist Elaine, and tyrannical dispatcher Louie. For almost everyone, the cab company is just a temporary job that can be left behind when they make it in their chosen professions. The core of the company is disillusioned Alex (Judd Hirsch), who's sure he will be driving a cab for the rest of his life. Burned-out ex-hippie minister Reverend Jim and mechanic Latka Gravas (Andy Kaufman) round out the group.

May 18th– Song Sung Blue (2025)- Two down-on-their-luck performers form a Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it's never too late to find love and follow your dreams. Starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, who was nominated for an Oscar.

May 25th– MEMORIAL DAY– Center Closed

AKG Art Museum Trip

Join us Monday, May 18th for a field trip to the AKG Art Museum to see the Special Exhibition– One with Eternity: Yayoi Kusama.

One with Eternity: Yayoi Kusama honors the influential artist’s distinctive vision of self-obliteration by exploring its development across media. The exhibition will feature three immersive installations of Yayoi Kusama’s artwork, including two of her renowned Infinity Mirror Rooms. Born in Japan in 1929, the artist is globally recognized for her multidisciplinary practice that includes room-size installations, paintings, sculpture, poetry, and public performances. One with Eternity: Yayoi Kusama is presented in partnership with the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC.

Itinerary for the trip is as follows:
11:30 AM– Lunch at Tosh Collins
Noon– Board bus for AKG
12:30 PM– Arrive at AKG
1:00 PM– Tour of the Contemporary Collection
2:00 PM– Entrance to Special Exhibition– One with Eternity
3:00 PM– Make way to Town Square for shopping, etc.

April 6th– The Wizard of Oz (1939)- When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy (Judy Garland) and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow (Ray Bolger) that needs a brain, a Tin Man (Jack Haley) missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr) who wants courage. The wizard asks the group to bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton) to earn his help.

April 13th– Classic Comedy Hour– The Judy Garland Show (1963) Starts at 1:30pm after Trivia - was a critically acclaimed but short-lived CBS musical variety series featuring the legendary entertainer. Despite high-profile guests like Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, and Liza Minnelli, the show struggled with format changes and behind-the-scenes turmoil, resulting in its cancellation after one season of 26 episodes

April 20th– Wicked (Part 1) (2024)- Misunderstood because of her green skin, a young woman named Elphaba forges an unlikely but profound friendship with Glinda, a student with an unflinching desire for popularity. Following an encounter with The Wizard of Oz, their relationship soon reaches a crossroad as their lives begin to take very different paths. Starring Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey & Jeff Goldblum.

April 27th– Wicked: For Good (Part 2) (2025)- Now demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba lives in exile in the Ozian forest, while Glinda resides at the palace in Emerald City, reveling in the perks of fame and popularity. As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, she'll need to reunite with Glinda to transform herself, and all of Oz, for good. Doodle Art Class: Creativity, Imagination & Relaxation
Thursday, April 16th– 1:00-2:30 PM
Discover the calming and creative world of doodle art in this engaging presentation and demonstration. Rather than focusing only on how to draw, this class explores why doodling is so powerful for the mind and imagination.
The instructor will share examples of their own intricate doodle artwork and talk about the creative process behind it. Participants will learn how simple lines and repeating patterns—often called “tangles”—can help stimulate imagination, encourage mindfulness, and create a relaxing, almost meditative experience.
A short demonstration will show how to get started, along with suggestions for creating patterns and some favorite tangles. Participants will also learn how this type of creative activity can help improve focus, support cognitive health, and provide a meaningful form of artistic expression at any skill level.
No art experience is needed. Doodle art is about exploration, relaxation, and enjoying the creative process. If there is interest, additional sessions may be offered where participants can continue developing their own designs with guidance and individual support. FREE

Benson always manages to keep his head, no matter what the staffers or the governor's family members throw at him. He begins his post on loan from his employer, Jessica Tate (Katherine Helmond) on the show "Soap," but soon wins a permanent place in the governor's staff and heart. His cool head and keen intellect are a perfect complement for the constant craziness that surrounds Gov. Gatling and his entourage.

December 1st– National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)- As the holidays approach, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he pesters his wife, Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo), and children, as he tries to make sure everything is in line, including the tree and house decorations. However, things go awry quickly. His hick cousin, Eddie (Randy Quaid), and his family show up unplanned and start living in their camper on the Griswold property. Even worse, Clark's employers renege on the holiday bonus he needs.

December 8th–
Classic Comedy Hour– Family Ties (1989) Starts at 1:30pm after Trivia - Steven and Elyse Keaton, once 1960s radicals, now find themselves in Reagan-era American trying to raise a traditional suburban family. Son Alex P. Keaton is an ambitious young Republican, and his sister Mallory is a shallow victim of the corporate culture, obsessed with music, clothes and boys. Their only normal kid is young Jennifer, a bit of a tomboy. In later seasons, the Keatons add a fourth child, Andrew. Most of the comedy arose from the conflict between the liberal parents and the conservative children.

December 15th– The Polar Express (2004)- A young boy who has grown skeptical of Santa Claus is shocked to see a train stop outside his window on Christmas Eve, destined for the North Pole. When he accepts an invitation from the conductor to climb on board, he embarks on a white-knuckle ride to Santa's headquarters, where he makes fast friends and learns an invaluable lesson about the true spirit of Christmas. Starring Tom Hanks

December 22nd– Red One (2024)- When a villain kidnaps Santa Claus from the North Pole, an E.L.F. (Extremely Large and Formidable) operative joins forces with the world's most accomplished tracker to find him and save Christmas. Starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans.

December 29th– Die Hard (1988 )- New York City policeman John McClane (Bruce Willis) is visiting his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia) and two daughters on Christmas Eve. He joins her at a holiday party in the headquarters of the Japanese-owned business she works for. But the festivities are interrupted by a group of terrorists who take over the exclusive high-rise, and everyone in it. Very soon McClane realizes that there's no one to save the hostages -- but him.

November 10th– Classic Comedy Hour– Friends (1994) Starts at 1:30pm after Trivia - Six young men and women live in the same apartment complex and face life and love together in Manhattan, New York City. As they're constantly sticking their noses into each another's businesses, as well as sometimes swapping romantic partners, the group always get into the kind of comic situations that most other people never experience, especially during breakups.

November 17th– Our Souls at Night (2017)- Addie Moore and Louis Waters, a widow and widower, have lived next door to each other for years. When Addie tries to make a connection with her neighbor, the two begin sleeping in bed together platonically, with the innocent goal of alleviating their shared loneliness. As their relationship deepens, however, they each deal with grief and loss, and a real romance begins to blossom. Starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda.

November 24th– The Family Stone (2005 )- Everett Stone (Dermot Mulroney) wants to bring his girlfriend, Meredith Morton (Sarah Jessica Parker), to meet his bohemian Connecticut family at Christmas. Straitlaced Meredith, feeling she needs backup, asks her sister Julie (Claire Danes) to come along. Hoping to win the approval of her boyfriend's parents Sybil (Diane Keaton) and Kelly (Craig T. Nelson) and the rest of the family, instead Meredith succeeds only in highlighting her uptight personality and making Everett doubt his intentions.

September 8th– Classic Comedy Hour– Facts of Life (1979) Starts at 1:30pm after Trivia - "You take the good, you take the bad ... ." Originally set at the prestigious Eastland School for Young Women, housemother Mrs. Garrett is the caretaker and confidante of a special group of girls. Over time, this group shrinks to be centered on only four young women: wealthy and spoiled Blair, gossipy Tootie, eager-to-please Natalie and tough girl Jo. Over the years, the girls graduate from school, and the story lines evolve with them.

September 15th– Back to School (1986)- Thornton Melon (Rodney Dangerfield) is concerned that his son Jason (Keith Gordon) is unsure whether to go to college, so the uneducated self-made millionaire encourages him by signing up as a student as well. As Jason tries to establish himself among his peers and make the diving team, Thornton falls for a pretty professor (Sally Kellerman) and gets others do his schoolwork for him. When the suspicious dean (Paxton Whitehead) finds out, Thornton needs to show he can get by on his own.

September 22nd– School of Rock (2003)- Overly enthusiastic guitarist Dewey Finn (Jack Black) gets thrown out of his bar band and finds himself in desperate need of work. Posing as a substitute music teacher at an elite private elementary school, he exposes his students to the hard rock gods he idolizes and emulates -- much to the consternation of the uptight principal (Joan Cusack). As he gets his privileged and precocious charges in touch with their inner rock 'n' roll animals, he imagines redemption at a local Battle of the Bands.

September 29th– The Intern (2015 )- Starting a new job can be a difficult challenge, especially if you're already retired. Looking to get back into the game, 70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) seizes the opportunity to become a senior intern at an online fashion site. Ben soon becomes popular with his younger co-workers, including Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway), the boss and founder of the company. Whittaker's charm, wisdom and sense of humor help him develop a special bond and growing friendship with Jules.

August 4– Jaws (1975) When a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping near the New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) wants to close the beaches, but mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) overrules him, fearing that the loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and grizzled ship captain Quint (Robert Shaw) offer to help Brody capture the killer beast, and the trio engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature.

August 11– Classic Comedy Hour– Love Boat (1976) Starts at 1:30pm after Trivia - The romantic-sounding Love Boat promises -- and delivers -- something for everyone. Specifically, it promises a cavalcade of famous guest stars (including many film stars making rare TV appearances), breezy plots, stories of love and plenty of laughs. Join the members of the Pacific Princess crew, headed by Capt. Stubing (Gavin MacLeod), as they greet passengers for the trip of a lifetime.

August 18– Jurassic Park (1993)- In Steven Spielberg's massive blockbuster, paleontologists Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and mathematician Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) are among a select group chosen to tour an island theme park populated by dinosaurs created from prehistoric DNA. While the park's mastermind, billionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), assures everyone that the facility is safe, they find out otherwise when various ferocious predators break free and go on the hunt. .

August 25– Dirty Dancing (1987)- Baby (Jennifer Grey) is one listless summer away from the Peace Corps. Hoping to enjoy her youth while it lasts, she's disappointed when her summer plans deposit her at a sleepy resort in the Catskills with her parents. Her luck turns around, however, when the resort's dance instructor, Johnny (Patrick Swayze), enlists Baby as his new partner, and the two fall in love. Baby's father forbids her from seeing Johnny, but she's determined to help him perform the last big dance of the summer.

Senior Summer Art Camp Returns!

Charity Huff returns for another fun summer of art at Tosh Collins!

Classes will begin on Thursday, June 26th and run for 8 weeks through August 14th, from 1 pm—3 pm.

Like last summer, we will have a Gallery Exhibition Opening on Thursday, August 21st from 1 pm to 3 pm with appetizers and beverages.

The cost for this year’s Senior Summer Art Camp is:

Mindful Movement- Meet Jacky!

My name is Jacky Zientowski , and I bring my unique knowledge and expertise to the Mindful Movement and Meditation Class at the Tosh Collins Senior Center.

I am a Graduate of Buffalo State University, where I studied Health & Wellness, Adult Fitness, Dietetics & Nutrition and Theatre & Performing Arts.

During my studies and upon graduation, I continued to work for The Athletics and Fitness Department at Buffalo State University as a Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor.

My Post Graduate Education has included almost a decade of verbal and non-verbal communication studies with achievement of official Diplomas in Long Form and Short Form Improvisation from The Second City Toronto.

My time spent studying and performing with PUSH Physical Theatre in Rochester and Annoyance Theatre in Chicago inspired me to continuously emphasize the importance of being present in the mind and body as it’s the collaborative effort that gets you to the next step.

AND, as always in life, my unexpected turns have gained me years of experience in home health care, in physical therapy, the music industry, show production (The Movin’ & Groovin’ Improv Show), clown, boxing, mixed martial arts, contact improvisation, aikido and more.

I envision students becoming more at peace with their bodies and the community, developing love, enjoyment and acceptance for their fitness journey rather than complete focus on the destination.

After commitment to a few or more mindful movement sessions, my hope is that students will develop and increase their mobility, flexibility, awareness, focus and communication within their own bodies. This in turn will help them notice more positive results from any other activity they partake in such as walking, gardening, strength training, dancing, etc. There will always be music at a mindful movement & meditation class and exploration of everyday objects in relation to how the body moves in class.

I enjoy working with the older adult population as their commitment to themselves reminds me of the importance of self-care and love at any age. The community at South Buffalo Community Association is super supportive and welcoming.

Join us for our 3rd annual Winter Senior Semi-Formal– THE SNOW BALL on December 6th. This year we’re going to The Villa Banquet Center for an afternoon of dining, dancing, and holiday cheer!

Doors open at 11 AM with an hors d’oeuvres and appetizer table and holiday music by DJ George. Guests will be seated by Noon for a family-style lunch with a menu of: Sliced Roast Sirloin, Chicken Breast Supreme, Chef Salad with Italian Dressing, Pasta in Red Sauce, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, Rolls & Butter.

After lunch, DJ George will heat up the dance floor with an afternoon of hot tunes along with a selection of fine pastries for dessert.

Just in time for Halloween, we’re showing some horror classics! They're creepy and they're kooky. Mysterious and spooky. They're all together ooky!

October 7th– Bram Stroker’s Dracula (1992) Count Dracula, a 15th-century prince, is condemned to live off the blood of the living for eternity. Young lawyer Jonathan Harker is sent to Dracula's castle to finalise a land deal, but when the Count sees a photo of Harker's fiancée, Mina, the spitting image of his dead wife, he imprisons him and sets off for London to track her down.

October 21st– Comedy Classic Hour– The Addams Family (1964) Starts at 1:30pm after Trivia - Morticia and Gomez Addams head a perplexingly macabre family whose members include a giant named Lurch, who acts as doorman, a disembodied hand named Thing, not-quite-right son Pugsley and morose daughter Wednesday.

October 28th– Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein (1994) As Viktor Frankenstein (Kenneth Branagh) is dying he shares a tale of gruesome terror with a sea captain. Viktor, using previous experiments by a brilliant scientist, was able to bring a creature (Robert De Niro) assembled from body parts back to life. Once he realized how destructive his experiments had become, he abandoned the creature and tried to live a normal life with his fiance (Helena Bonham Carter). The lonely creature seeks out Viktor and demands one of two things: a bride or revenge.

For August, we are celebrating two American classics– Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore.

August 5th– Ordinary People (1980)– Tormented by guilt following the death of his older brother, Buck, in a sailing accident, alienated teenager Conrad Jarrett (Timothy Hutton) attempts suicide. Returning home following an extended stay in a psychiatric hospital, Conrad tries to deal with his mental anguish and also reconnect with his mother, Beth (Mary Tyler Moore), who has grown cold and angry, and his emotionally wounded father, Calvin (Donald Sutherland), with the help of his psychiatrist , Dr. Berger (Judd Hirsch).

August 12th– Classic Comedy Hour – The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961) Starts at 1:30 pm after Trivia. Considered to be one of television's classics, "The Dick Van Dyke Show" centers on the personal and professional lives Rob Petrie, a writer on the fictional Alan Brady Show. He's happily married to former dancer Laura, and they have a young son, Ritchie. The plots generally revolve around problems at work -- where Rob got into various comedic jams with fellow writers Buddy Sorrell, Sally Rogers and producer Mel Cooley -- or at home.

August 19th–The Gin Game (2003) In the play "The Gin Game," lonely nursing home residents Weller Martin (Dick Van Dyke) and Fonsia Dorsey (Mary Tyler Moore) compete in a series of gin rummy games.

August 26th–Mary Poppins (1964) When Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garber), the children of the wealthy and uptight Banks family, are faced with the prospect of a new nanny, they are pleasantly surprised by the arrival of the magical Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews). Our first trip of the summer is to the amazing West Side Bazaar on Niagara Street on Wednesday July 17th.

WEDI’s West Side Bazaar is a small business incubator where aspiring entrepreneurs incubate business concepts and learn the fundamentals of running a business. Located at 1432 Niagara Street on Buffalo's West Side, it is also a community gathering space where people of all races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds share a love of delicious food and unique products.

The Bazaar has restaurants featuring Vietnamese, Egyptian, Congolese, Italian, Malaysian, Jamaican and Korean cuisines. We will be sampling food from all the restaurants on site along with a talk & tour of the Bazaar. Afterwards, we will be stopping for ice cream at your own expense.

There are only 60 seats available for this trip and only members may purchase a ticket.

On Thursday, April 18th from 12p-2p, be prepared to enjoy a visit from an animal ambassador! We know not everyone can have pets at home, so we're bringing the pets to you! Come down and relax with our gentle animal ambassador dog. All ambassador animals are certified therapy animals through the Erie County SPCA's Paws of Love program. This program brings furry and feathered friends to locations all around Western New York to bring you joy, comfort, and stress relief! SENIOR PROM HEADS BACK TO THE ‘70’S

The 3rd annual Tosh Collins SENIOR Prom steps back in time to the days of disco as we catch FRIDAY AFTERNOON FEVER and hustle over to the Irish Center!

Join us Friday June 7th from 11 AM to 3 PM at the Buffalo Irish Center for a day of dining and dancing. As is our annual tradition, we will be crowning a new Prom King and Queen.

The catered meal with include a fine selection of hors d’oeuvres with a lunch buffet including roast beef au jus, lemon pepper chicken, pasta, horseradish cream potatoes, fresh rolls; and coffee and soda. Cash bar will be available. Menu subject to change.

After lunch, hit the dance floor with our DJ spinning all the hits of the 1970’s!

Tickets go on sale Friday April 12th at Noon.

April 29th & May 6th– Oppenheimer (2023)- During World War II, Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves Jr. appoints physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer to work on the top-secret Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer and a team of scientists spend years developing and designing the atomic bomb. Their work comes to fruition on July 16, 1945, as they witness the world's first nuclear explosion, forever changing the course of history. Art Camp - Spring Break 2024

We are thrilled to continue our ART CAMP classes with Charity Huff for another run. Due to Charity’s limited availability this spring, we are switching up the schedule!

For our Spring Break Art Camp, we are doing a 5-day 1-week Art Camp starting Monday March 18th through Friday March 22nd and we will be working on one big project. Class will be Monday through Friday starting at 10 am every day.

Charity is planning on teaching large landscapes in acrylic Bob Ross style. The week will culminate in an art show at Noon of the finished paintings.

The cost of the camp for the week is $20 if you register in advance. We will limit the registration to 15 people. If you pay the day-of, as space allows, it will be $5 per day.

February 5th– Pixar’s Soul (2020)– Joe is a middle-school band teacher whose life hasn't quite gone the way he expected. His true passion is jazz -- and he's good. But when he travels to another realm to help someone find their passion, he soon discovers what it means to have soul.

February 12th– Disney’s The Princess & The Frog (2009) 1:30pm– Hardworking and ambitious, Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) dreams of one day opening the finest restaurant in New Orleans. Her dream takes a slight detour when she meets Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos), who has been turned into an amphibian by evil Dr. Facilier. Mistaking her for a princess and hoping to break the spell, Naveen plants a kiss on poor Tiana -- thereby turning her into a frog as well. The pair hop along on an adventure through the bayous to seek the help of a powerful voodoo priestess.

February 26th – Akeelah & The Bee (2006) Akeelah, an 11-year-old girl living in South Los Angeles, discovers she has a talent for spelling, which she hopes will take her to the National Spelling Bee. She finds help in the form of a mysterious teacher, and along with overwhelming support from her community, Akeelah might just have what it takes to make her dream come true.

Our popular series of computer classes for older adults returns for a spring semester with Brendan Chella from the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library. Starting February 21st, class moves to Wednesdays for the semester, from 1pm to 3pm, with Brendan offering technical assistance from 3pm to 4 pm.

Laptop computers are available to sign-out for use in the Center during Center hours..

MARDI GRAS PARTY

Join us Tuesday February 13th at 11:30 am for our Mardi Gras Party! A special Fat Tuesday lunch will be served through our congregate dining program along with special treats and beads for all. Lunch is the normal $3 donation.

This will be followed by a special Mardi Gras BINGO with extra prizes, starting at 12:30 pm. Call Kim at (716) 822-4532 x0 to sign up.

VALENTINES' DAY TEA PARTY

Join us on Wednesday February 14th for a lovely afternoon of food, fun and friends. The party begins at 11:30 AM with a table-served congregate dining lunch. Following lunch, we will sip our favorite teas as we play some games. And to cap off the afternoon, a variety of desserts and confections will be on display for you to sample and satisfy your sweet tooth!

The cost is $10 and we will be limiting registration to 70 members.

October 2nd– NO MOVIE

October 16th– Young Frankenstein (1974) Comedy horror film directed by Mel Brooks. Starring Gene Wilder as the title character, Peter Boyle portrays the monster. The film co-stars Teri Garr, Cloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, Madeline Kahn, Kenneth Mars, Richard Haydn, and Gene Hackman. The film is a parody of the classic horror film genre, in particular the various film adaptations of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein.

October 23rd– Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?(1962) Psychological horror thriller starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. It follows an aging former child star tormenting her paraplegic sister, a former movie star, in an old Hollywood mansion.
